We have received reports from residents receiving suspicious calls showing "Fort Fairfield Public Works" on their caller ID. When answered, the caller falsely claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and demands payment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

โœดThe Town is not calling you for money. No department at the Town of Fort Fairfield will ever call you demanding payment or personal financial details.

โœดWe are not affiliated with the IRS or any other federal agency. No federal agency operates or routes calls through municipal town lines.

โœดCaller IDs can be faked. Scammers use "spoofing" technology to make local municipal numbers appear on your screen to gain trust.

WHAT TO DO:

โœดHang up immediately. Do not engage, press numbers, or confirm personal information.

โœดNever send payment via wire transfer, prepaid debit cards, or gift cards over the phone.
