SAE Saluki Baja

SAE Saluki Baja SIUC's College of Engineering SAE RSO Teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm.
(1)

SAE Baja consists of three regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and sometimes even water. The object of the competition is to provide SAE student members with a challenging project that involves the plan

ning and manufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product to the consumer industrial market. Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities.

Days 2 & 3 of competition
Day 2 was a long day. We went to tech inspection and didn’t pass, which is not uncommon for a first year team. (Every team has to pass tech inspection before they are allowed to race) We worked all day and literally all night on fixing different parts of the car in hopes that we would pass tech inspection on day 3.
Day 3 did not turn out how we expected. We went to tech inspection early this morning in hopes to get through. But unfortunately we had too many things that did not pass tech that could not fix in the short amount of time we had. So we hung around the competition for a little bit, and watched some other teams on the track
Overall a really good learning experience and now we know what to expect for any future competitions.

Day 0 & 1 of competition
Day 0 was all travel, it was a long but very pretty drive to South Carolina.
Day 1 was the first day of competition. We spent almost all day in line for engine check and also hanging out around the trailer working on the car making sure it’s all ready for all the different inspections we have on day 2 of competition.
If you are wanting to keep track of our progress this weekend we are car #70.

All SIUC Engineering RSOs are able to start fund raising for our own RSO. Please consider donating to SIU Saluki Baja. We would really appreciate it especially as we get ready to go to competition at the beginning of October. This will be Bajas first time competing since 2017 and we are so excited as all of us are working hard to get ready to go to competition for the first time.

The College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics has 19 registered student organizations (RSO). RSOs are a group of Salukis that share a common interest with an opportunity to explore a student’s curiosity. Please consider a donation to support one of the exclusive RSOs within the...
