‼️Important updates to private health insurance are coming 9/1/24!‼️
If it has been on your mind to shop/enroll in a private health plan make sure you put that as a priority on your to-do list THIS MONTH.
Starting 9/1/24, all private short term insurance plans will only be able to be sold in three month terms, with an optional additional fourth month added on. This means that every three months, you will have to redo an application and go back through medical underwriting. On top of that, you cannot re-sign up with the same insurance company more than once in a 12 month period of time. The purpose of the government imposing these new rules is to try and shift everyone over to Marketplace insurance. While Marketplace may be a good option for some, it is not a once size fits all which is why private plans have been a great alternative for a lot of people.
I am currently preparing all of my clients to ensure they remain covered as well as possible through all of this, and if anyone out there needs assistance, get with an agent as soon as possible because by the end of the month we will no longer have access to as many options as we have now. I am not one at all to rush anyone or try and use fear as a tactic, but this is important and has a fast approaching deadline and I want everyone to be informed and be aware of what is happening.
Here is a link explaining the new rule in more detail:
On March 28, 2024, the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor, and the Treasury (collectively, the Departments) released final rules regarding short-term, limited-duration insurance (STLDI) and independent, noncoordinated excepted benefits coverage.
