This year, Ag Literacy Week fell during some of the school’s Spring Break. Trying to get our readers scheduled (during their planting season) and the break was challenging! It got done-but we don’t have as many pictures as we would like to share. Both the readers and students enjoyed this time. Many Thanks to all who participated and made this happen! 📚✏️🖍️🚜🐓🥔🌽

Mr. Pryor was a wonderful leader!

Join us in congratulating our former President Wayne Pryor on receiving the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2026 Farm Bureau Founders Award.

Pryor served on VFBF’s board for more than three decades in multiple capacities, eventually serving as president of the organization from 2006 until he completed his final term in December 2024. He was known for his bold leadership and for helping to keep forestry and agriculture as the top industry in Virginia.

Under Pryor’s leadership, Virginia Farm Bureau was victorious in advocating for broadband connectivity statewide, land use taxation and funding for the implementation of agricultural best management practices to protect water quality. Pryor also helped to ensure the State Fair of Virginia was saved from a bankruptcy threat in 2012. He helped to implement a solution that kept the agricultural character of the fair and youth scholarship program intact. VFBF continues to own and operate the fair.

The Founders Award is one of the highest honors presented by AFBF. Pryor was recognized during AFBF’s 107th Convention in Anaheim, California.

Congratulations, Mr. Stoneman!

Congratulations, Mr. Stoneman!

Join us in congratulating Wilmer Stoneman III on his appointment as the Virginia state executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency. In this three-year appointment, Stoneman will be working on behalf of the state’s farmers under the direction of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins.

Stoneman most recently served as vice president of agriculture, development and innovation at Virginia Farm Bureau Federation.

He began his career at Farm Bureau in February 1995 as an assistant director in the Public Affairs Department, was promoted to associate director of governmental relations, and eventually was appointed as director of Farm Bureau’s Commodity/Marketing Department. He was founder and executive director of the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture, Innovation and Rural Sustainability—a division that fosters sustainable agricultural economic development opportunities that empower farmers, agribusinesses and their communities.

We’re grateful for his years of service to Virginia Farm Bureau Federation and look forward to working with him in this new role.
