A lot of restaurants and Square users are still swiping cards and not reading the EMV chip. We all know this is a security risk. What you may not know is that as in incentive to switch to a chip reader Visa has removed 100% of your right to dispute chargebacks. So if a customer files a complaint, you the business owner lose your money every time... even if you have proof of the sale. What is new is that Visa is adding an additional $.10 cents per transaction as an additional fee to incentives business owners to upgrade to EMV readers. Have you ever wondered how same day deposits work?

In the old days it you took your credit card slips to the bank to deposit them. Then Visa introduced automated weekly deposits. Somewhere in the 90s we were able to get bi-weekly deposits and later next day deposits. How next day deposits worked is that your credit card processor would release your funds to the Federal Reserve and they would release it to your bank the next day. There is usually a cut off like 10pm EST, and you need to have your batch done before the cut off to get. next day deposits. Also next day deposits don't work on weekends or bank holidays. Recently same day and instant deposits became available. Up until now there has been no cost for faster deposits. With same day or instant deposits the price has been 1% of your deposit.
