STARK COUNTY TRAFFIC VICTIM
MEMORIAL GARDEN
Stark County Park District has been working on the Stark County
Traffic Victim Memorial Garden this fall. They have installed a beautiful brick entry and walkway, as well as the seating areas for our memorial benches. Flowers and trees have also been planted.
Every day in the United States almost 100 people die as a result of traffic crashes. That is about 1 every 16 minutes. When you consider the number of family members, loved ones and friends left behind, the devastation multiplies. Traffic crashes are one of the leading causes of death of teens and young adults in our country. However, no one is immune to traffic crashes. They take the lives of our young and old, rich and poor, male and female. Families may lose parents, children, spouses, their caregiver or the main financial support of the family. The impact of a traffic death goes beyond the loss of one life.
Stark County is one of the leading counties of Ohio in the number of traffic deaths each year, we have a higher than average percentage of alcohol and/or drug related fatal crashes. We must unite as a community to ensure we are not complacent to the physical, emotional and financial devastation traffic crashes cause every day.
In an effort to increase public awareness to the impact of traffic crashes and make others aware that those who have lost their life in a traffic crash are more than just a number on a graph or a name in a report, we are partnering with Stark County Parks to create a Traffic Victim Memorial Garden at Molly Stark Park. The garden will also give people a place to memorialize their loved one in a peaceful and respectful setting. Many families currently build roadside memorials to their loved ones which can be dangerous to them and others on the roadways. The Memorial Garden will be an on-going project and people will be able to purchase an item or brick to commemorate their loved one if they so desire.
The land, garden design and landscaping labor are being provided by the Stark County Parks, but we need your help to see that this project is successful. Please consider supporting this worthy project by making a donation to the Stark County Traffic Victim Memorial Garden.
