Congress passed a law to help those who had income reduced as a result of Covid'19. If your 2020 income went down, you might get a larger EIC and/or ACTC by using your 2019 earned income to calculate those credits. Check with a tax professional.

The IRS has not yet announced a start date for the 2021 filing season. Most form W2 and other forms are due to taxpayers by February 1st,2021.

Received a few calls this morning on whether the stimulus money will count as 2020 income. First and foremost, the payments will not be included in 2020 income. The official title for the stimulus money is,"the Recovery Rebate for individuals. " The stimulus money you receive is an advance payment of a credit that will appear on your 2020 income tax return. In the 2020 return, the 2020 credit will appear. Elsewhere in the return, it will be offset against the payment you received, thus a wash.
