Yikes! Today's PSA-
1. Do not sign anything if a storm chaser shows up at your door! Your signature is NOT required for an estimate. If you do sign, you only have 72 hours to use the right of rescission clause.
2. You can either call a reputable contractor to assess the damage or call your agent and file a claim.
3. It is up to you to mitigate any further damage. Tarps, wood over windows, etc. Keep your receipts! You might be able to be reimbursed from insurance for that. Take videos or photos of the damage prior to any small repairs you make to show the adjuster.
4. Make a list of any personal property that was damaged due to the storm, patio set, grill, etc. Do not dispose of any damaged items until the adjuster has insepcted them.
5. If your tree or any part of it falls on your neighbors' property and causes damage to their property through no fault of your own (due to a snow storm, winds, hurricane, or other so-called "act of God"), you are not responsible. Your neighbors will have to file a claim with their own property insurer if they want to be reimbursed for their loss.
