The pitch: they can get your money back – for an upfront “retainer” or “processing” fee. 💵

✅ Here is the truth: no legitimate government agency will ever ask you to pay money to recover money you’ve lost. If someone contacts you promising to recover lost funds for a fee, hang up.

🚨 If you think your identity may have been stolen, one of the fastest things you can do is place a fraud alert on your credit report. This makes it harder for someone to open credit in your name, because a business must verify your identity first.

📞 It takes one phone call to any of the three major credit reporting agencies:
• Equifax (1-800-685-1111)
• Experian (1-888-397-3742)
• TransUnion (1-888-909-8872)

The agency you call is required to notify the other two, but it’s worth asking to be sure. A fraud alert lasts one year and gives you a free credit report from each agency, so you can look for accounts you didn’t open or anything else that seems off. Watch the video to see how it works.
