FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marine Veteran Needs Community Support to Save Family Home from Imminent Bankruptcy

Holly Ridge, NC – June 24, 2024 – Alex Boyle, a long-time teammate of US Marine Corp service member Steve Lincoln, is spearheading a fundraising campaign to help the Lincoln family, who are at risk of losing their home before it is even finished. Despite relentless efforts since 2020, Steve Lincoln's dream of homeownership has been thwarted by ineffective and incompetent building practices. Now, the Lincoln family faces mental, physical, and financial exhaustion, with their new home in North Carolina only 70% complete after almost three years.

The Nightmare Begins:

In 2020, Steve and his fellow Marines received orders to relocate from California to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Excited by the opportunity for affordable homeownership, Steve purchased land in Holly Ridge, NC, using his life savings, and began the process of building his dream home.

However, construction delays, unscrupulous demands for additional funds, and abandonment by the original builder turned Steve's dream into a nightmare. After nearly two years, the home remained incomplete, suffering from structural damage and decay due to prolonged exposure to the elements and negligence by the builder.

Struggles and Setbacks:

The situation worsened in early 2023 when Steve returned from deployment to find his home still unfinished. With his family still in California, Steve faced mounting financial strain, living on couches and out of a toy hauler while scraping together funds from his Marine salary.

Steve was forced to extend his construction loan multiple times, each time incurring higher interest rates and additional fees. The builder's abandonment left Steve responsible for builder insurance risk policies and HOA violations, further depleting his finances. The financial burden has become so overwhelming that the Lincoln family now faces the very real threat of bankruptcy.

A Glimmer of Hope:

In late 2023, Trey Lewis of Lewis Coastal Homes and Renovations LLC stepped in to help. Trey's team quickly made significant progress, addressing structural deficiencies, cleaning the site, and resolving issues with the HOA. Steve finally felt treated as a valued client, seeing tangible progress toward completing his home.

The Call for Help:

Despite the positive turnaround, the Lincoln family still faces a long road ahead. The ongoing financial burden and the need to recover from years of setbacks necessitate community support. Without intervention, Steve and his family could face bankruptcy, losing not only their dream home but also their financial stability.

How You Can Help:

Alex Boyle is calling on friends, family, the military community, and compassionate citizens to help raise $200,000 to complete the Lincoln family's home and cover their financial expenses. Funds will be allocated as follows:

Completion of Construction: Ensuring the home is finished within the next 2-3 months.

Covering Increased Costs: Addressing the financial gap caused by missing construction materials, builder transition costs, increased loan costs, and living expenses.

Legal and HOA Fees: Covering legal fees related to pursuing the original builder and lender and resolving HOA issues.

Furnishing the Home: Providing essential furnishings for the Lincoln family's new home.

Conclusion:

The Lincoln family's struggle is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. Steve Lincoln, a dedicated Marine, deserves to see his dream of homeownership realized. The community's support can help bring light back into his life and give his family a stable, happy home, averting the devastating prospect of bankruptcy.

On behalf of the Lincoln family, Alex Boyle extends heartfelt gratitude for donations, support, and efforts to spread the word about this campaign. Let's come together to give Steve and his family a second shot at the American Dream.
