Ever looked at a medical bill and wondered why your insurance company paid a different amount than what the doctor charged?
It all comes down to a number called the Allowed Amount.
Think of the allowed amount as a pre-negotiated discount price between the insurance company and network of doctors and hospitals.
Here is how it protects your wallet:• If an in-network doctor normally charges $150 for a visit, but our allowed amount is $100, they discount the bill. You only pay based on that $100 price (depending on your plan's deductible or coinsurance).•
The doctor cannot bill you for the remaining $50 difference. That is called "balance billing," and in-network doctors aren't allowed to do it!
Choosing in-network doctors ensures you always get the benefit of our maximum allowed amounts, keeping your care affordable.
