This is the question everyone's afraid to ask — because the answer might disappoint.

Here's the honest version. No magic percentage works for everyone.

The 4% rule is a starting point, not a law.

Your sustainable spending depends on your actual expenses, your guaranteed income, your portfolio size, and how flexible you can be if markets disappoint.

We help you answer this with your actual numbers — not generic math.

Ask yourself these right now.

- If your portfolio dropped 25% tomorrow, could you still fund your lifestyle without selling at a loss?
- Do you have 12 months of expenses in cash or near-cash?
- Is your investment mix matched to your actual withdrawal timeline?
- When did you last review your allocation?
- Can you honestly say your portfolio lets you sleep at night?

5 out of 5 — well-positioned. 3 or 4 — small adjustments could make a big difference. Under 3 — real exposure.

Let's talk. Book a portfolio review. Link in bio.

Too conservative: all in cash or CDs at 65 with 25 years of spending ahead of you. Inflation will quietly eat your savings.

Too aggressive: a 30% market drop would force you to cut spending immediately — or you wake up at 3 am checking your portfolio.

The right mix isn't about maximum return. It's about sustainable income you can actually sleep through.

Neither extreme is right for everyone.

Let's review your allocation. Link in bio.

Over a 30-year retirement, you will live through multiple market downturns.

That's not a prediction. It's math. The question isn't whether it will happen.

It's whether your plan was built to survive it. A well-built plan has a cash buffer so you never have to sell in a panic.

A diversified mix that doesn't require perfect market timing. And a spending plan you've agreed to in advance.

Markets recover. Panic decisions don't.

My friend retired last year, and he's doing great.

I'll do what he did.' We love that your friend is doing well.

But copying his retirement plan could seriously backfire. Different Social Security ages. Different healthcare situations.

Different spending habits and risk tolerance. Different tax and legacy goals.

Retirement is one of the most personalized financial decisions of your life. Generic advice is genuinely dangerous here.

Your plan should look like your life — not your friend's. Book a call. Link in bio.

This is one of the most emotionally loaded questions in retirement.

You want to help. They need help. And you feel guilty saying no.

Here's the oxygen mask principle. You cannot save your children's financial future at the expense of your own.

An underfunded retirement doesn't just hurt you — it eventually becomes their burden.

The most loving thing you can do for your kids is to be financially secure yourself.

Helping is great — when it's structured correctly. Let's build a plan that protects you first. Link in bio.

Bob's taking this weekend. The saddest conversations I have aren't with people who ran out of money.

They're with people who had plenty — and never permitted themselves to enjoy it.

We've worked with families who saved diligently for 40 years. Who drove the same car? Said 'maybe next year.' And then one of them got sick.

And next year never came. Your retirement savings exist for one reason: to fund the life you actually want to live.

What would you do first if money weren't the worry?

Grab a pen. Seriously — 10 minutes.

Step 1: Add up your guaranteed income in retirement. Social Security plus any pension plus any annuity income.
Step 2: Estimate your monthly retirement expenses. Be honest — include travel, healthcare, and fun.
Step 3: Subtract Step 1 from Step 2. If Step 3 is a positive number you have an income gap.

That's what your portfolio needs to fill. If it's zero or negative you're in strong shape.

You hit your savings goal. Then you moved the goalposts.

Here's why that happens and what to do about it.

You saved $1 million. Then you needed $1.5 million to feel safe. Then $2 million. This isn't a savings problem.

It's a permission problem.

The goalpost moves because the underlying fear never got addressed.

A real financial plan doesn't give you a number to hit. It answers the fears underneath the number.

Have you moved the goalpost? You're not alone. Tell us in the comments.
