Most Delivery Drivers Are Uninsured and Don’t Even Know It… Are You?
Did you know that if you deliver for services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, Instacart, or even local pizza shops — your regular personal auto insurance may not cover you if you have an accident while driving for those deliveries? Many drivers don’t realize that using your car “for business purposes” (which includes delivery driving) can actually void your personal auto insurance for that trip. Even though some delivery companies offer limited insurance, it usually:
✅ Only covers liability to others — not damage to your car
✅ Only applies when you’re actively delivering
✅ Often comes after your own insurance denies the claim
River Valley Members, we want you to be protected. Here is what you can do:
➡️ Talk to your insurance agent about adding a “Rideshare / Delivery Endorsement” to your policy.
➡️ It usually costs $10–$30 per month — far cheaper than getting stuck with a big repair bill after an uncovered accident.
➡️ If you drive full-time for delivery, consider asking about commercial auto insurance.
We love seeing hardworking folks using these side gigs to boost their income — but we also don’t want any surprises that could put your finances (or your car!) at risk.
Stay safe out there — and if you ever need help financing your next car or have questions, you know where to find us!
