National Onion Ring Day is observed on June 22 each year to celebrate the beloved snack of batter-dipped, deep-fried onion slices, which have become a staple in diners, fast-food restaurants, and home kitchens across the U.S. and beyond. The first known onion ring recipe appeared in John Mollard’s 1802 cookbook, The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined, which suggested slicing onions, dipping them in a batter with flour, cream, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese, and deep-frying them. National Chocolate Eclair Day is a food holiday dedicated to enjoying chocolate eclairs, a classic French pastry made from

The word “eclair” means “flash of lightning” in French, possibly because the pastry is eaten quickly or because of the glossy shine of its chocolate topping.
The pastry was first developed in the 19th century by French chef Antonin Carmen. The first known English-language recipe appeared in the 1884 Boston Cooking School Cook Book. In the United States, similar pastries called Long John’s exist, but they differ as they are made from donut dough and typically filled with vanilla pudding or custard.
