If you filed for an extension earlier this year, October 15 is an important date to keep on your calendar.

For most individual taxpayers with a valid extension, October 15 is the deadline to file a 2025 federal income tax return. Keep in mind that an extension provided additional time to file, not additional time to pay any taxes originally due in April.

If you’re still gathering documents or coordinating with your tax professional, now is a good time to make sure everything is in place before the deadline sneaks up on you.

October is Financial Planning Month, which makes it a good excuse to zoom out.
