From the City of Camas:

Per Washington State Law, it is unlawful to leave a dog in a vehicle unattended. It doesn’t matter if the car is parked in the shade, the windows are cracked or down, or that there is a water bowl in the vehicle. If the animal is left unattended and is at risk for serious injury or death, the dog owner can be charged with a misdemeanor (arrested).

Dogs' normal body temperature ranges from 101 to 102.5, and they can withstand temps of 107 and 108 for just a short period of time before suffering severe injury or death. On an 85-degree day, temperatures in a car can soar to 102 in ten minutes and 120 in a half hour –– even with the windows cracked.

If you see a dog in trouble, it’s best to contact Animal Control and/or Camas Police:

Independence Day celebrations this week may be fun for people but they can be downright scary for furry friends.

The day after the 4th of July, animal shelters are full of pets that panicked at the sound of firecrackers the night before.

NEW IN 2019: Fireworks may be used *ONLY* on July 4 in Camas & Washougal for the Fourth of July Holiday.

Additionally, Washougal allows just "safe and sane" fireworks — basically anything that doesn’t leave the ground or travel more than 6 feet horizontally.
