Lisa read “Right This Very Minute” during Storytime in May at our local library. During craft time, the children created funny potato head faces using a variety of vegetables. For snack time, they enjoyed homemade butter that they made themselves and spread on fresh toast. It was a fun and engaging experience for everyone involved!

On Wednesday, April 29 at 8:00 AM, members of the Decatur and Grady County Farm Bureau will gather at Whigham Methodist Church to come together as a community in prayer for rain.

Farmers, ranchers, families, and friends are invited to join us as we lift up our land and ask for the rain our crops and livestock so greatly need. In times like these, we are reminded of the power of faith, unity, and supporting one another.

We hope to see you there as we stand together for our agricultural community.

The Methodist Church daycare 4-year-old class joined us during Storytime at the local library on April 17th. Lisa read the book “I love Starwberries!”, the children helped make a strawberry fluff dip and enjoyed making a fun craft to take home. Thank you for attending Storytime!

Grady County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Chairman Lisa Po***ck and Grady EMC Marketing & Member Services Manager Adam Starr recently presented a copy of the children’s ag book “I Love Blueberries” to the Youth Services Coordinator Bree Turner at the Grady County Public Library. To celebrate, Georgia Farm Bureau and other ag organizations across the state will observe Georgia Ag Week March 23-29 and celebrate National Ag Day on March 24. “During Georgia Ag Week, I encourage everyone to think about the contributions farmers make to our daily lives,” said Sammy Perkins, Grady County Farm Bureau president. “Farmers keep us fed, clothed, and housed. They also provide habitat to wildlife on their farms while protecting soil and water resources using environmentally friendly methods to grow their crops and livestock.” To celebrate Georgia agriculture, the Grady County Farm Bureau read “I Love Blueberries!” to 1st graders at Shiver, Southside, & Whigham Schools. It’s important to us to educate students where their food comes from, said Grady County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Chair, Lisa Po***ck.

Grady County Farm Bureau announces winners of art contest (s)

Grady County student Melissa Perez Lopez and Emily Tiburcio are the winners of the Grady County Farm Bureau Middle School Bookmark and High School Art Contests, respectively.
Lopez, a 7th-grade student at Whigham School, won $50.00 for winning the GCFB Bookmark Contest, which was open to sixth-eighth grade students. Bookmark contest participants were provided a blank bookmark and asked to draw a picture that depicts some aspect of Georgia agriculture. Students were allowed to use crayons, markers or colored pencils to create their bookmark. As the county winner, Lopez’s winning bookmark advanced to the Georgia Farm Bureau District 9 Bookmark Contest.

Tiburcio, a 12th-grade student at Cairo High School, won $50.00 for winning the GCFB High School Art Contest, which was open to ninth through twelfth-grade students. Art contest participants were asked to draw a picture that depicts some aspect of Georgia agriculture. Students were allowed to use a variety of media to create their artwork including graphite, charcoal, pastel, chalk, colored pencil, pen-and-ink, ballpoint pen or mixed media appropriate for printing to create their artwork. As the county winner, Tiburcio’s winning artwork advanced to the Georgia Farm Bureau District 9 High School Art Contest.

“On behalf of Grady County Farm Bureau, I would like to thank each student and teacher who participated in our contests,” said Grady County Farm Bureau President, Sammy Perkins.

Grady County Farm Bureau helped sponsored a 2026 Grady County Blessing of the Crops breakfast for farmers at the Grady County Agricultural Center on March 13th, for a time of fellowship, a light breakfast, and an inspirational message from Pastor William Hurst as we pray over the fields and the season ahead. 🙏🚜
