Hurricane Helene Aftermath Update: To all insureds, please take pictures of any damage. Contact FSA to apply for clean up and tree assistance programs. Don't attempt any widespread cleanup until you hear from FSA and the adjusters. I've heard from many of you. Some have dodged the worst, while others have been wiped out. As soon as we have power the claims will be submitted. Please be careful when surveying the damage!

Hurricane Helene 8pm Update: Things look a little better if you're around Americus and Ellaville. They look worse everywhere that's southeast of them - all the way down to Valdosta. Keep your phones charged. It's going to be a rough night.

Hurricane Update, Noon: The path of the storm seems fairly settled according to NOAA and the NWS. Camilla, Albany and Americus are in the center of the track. The latest reports indicate the storm is not moving as fast as predicted so its effects will be a bit later in the night/morning. Also, the prediction of wind speed/gusts has changed considerably since 11pm last night (and 5am this morning). Things don't look quite as dire, depending on location. Rainfall predictions have actually increased. So, this tells me there is still some uncertainty in the models. Don't let your guard down. Be finishing preparations now!

We are now about 18 hours out from the first major effects of Helene. The forecasts, specifically wind speed, have been changing rapidly over the last hour. It's all in the Lords's hands now. Please check the National Weather Service for the most accurate and timely updates. If you are near the track of the storm, please make your final preparations by noon tomorrow and then take shelter. All carriers and adjusters have been notified and are on standby. The storm should pass by noon Friday. Please take extreme caution when you are out surveying damage. Expect power outages, downed trees, structure and crop damage. We will begin to make contact with all our insureds beginning Friday afternoon. We are here to serve you! (On a lighter note, at least this hurricane is not named after me...).

There were no major surprises in USDA’s latest WASDE report. USDA didn't adjust U.S. corn or soybean yields in the July report, but cotton abandonment shows the brutal reality of this year's drought.

Attention Farmers: If you planted a cover crop, please remember to report them to FSA by 3/15! By doing so, this can save you $5 per acre on your crop insurance out-of-pocket premium. Please note that the cover crop acres MUST match your planted row crop acres on that field EXACTLY! For example: 40.23 acres of cover crop followed by 39.92 acres of peanuts does not match.
