We are so excited to announce and want to congratulate the 2026 State Farm and C & S Graphics athlete of the week scholarship recipient Grace Francis, a senior from Drexel High School. Grace will be attending State Fair Community College in the fall majoring in nursing and continuing her athletic career as a member of their track team. She just returned from the State Track meet earning two 3rd place medals in the hurdles! Thanks to all the coaches for their nominations each week so we can continue to recognize local athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the court/field/mat. We can’t wait until next year! These are great kids who put in the hard work to achieve success! Congrats again Grace and we wish you the best of luck in the future!

Baylie has been an important part of our team for the past 4 years, all while attending school full time! She recently graduated summa cm laude from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in business finance. We are so proud of her hard work and all of her accomplishments!

We would like to congratulate our C & S Graphics State Farm athlete of the week a senior from Drexel, Grace Francis. Grace was nominated by her head coach Jenny Wheeler. Coach Wheeler stated “Grace is a compassionate and dedicated young woman. She frequently volunteers to mentor younger students and demonstrates strong leadership qualities. She is very disciplined in her training.” Grace is a 3 sport athlete, member of NHS, president of FCA and on student council. She is a 10 time state qualifier in track and a 7 time state medalist. We asked Grace what it takes to be a successful athlete and she states “it takes a lot of work both individually and at practice. I spend a lot of time lifting weights and running and focus on my nutrition as well.” We asked Grace what her favorite track memory was and she stated “probably her freshman year in track when they went to state. There were a lot of us and it was just a lot of fun.” We asked her what her goals are for the remainder of the season and she stated “hopefully a lot of personal records and some state medals.” Grace plans to attend State Fair Community College after graduation and major in nursing while continuing her track career. It was such a pleasure meeting Grace and we wish her the best of luck in the future!

We are so excited to announce this week’s C & S Graphics and State Farm athlete of the week from Sherwood, Junior, AB Chaikin. AB was nominated by his head track coach Ryan Dickson. Coach Dickson stated AB broke the school record for pole vault which had stood for over 40 years and then broke it again achieving 13 feet on April 7th. AB is a three sport athlete participating in football, wrestling and track. All while being a great student ranked second in his class with a 4.2 gpa. We asked AB how he keeps focused during pole vault and he stated “I just try to focus on fixing one thing each time I vault, and then with time I improve and get better. As a junior he states “his goal is to see how far he can go this year with his rankings in the state and then next year hopefully compete for first place at state.” Following graduation he stated he plans to attend college and possibly major in business. It was such pleasure meeting AB and we wish him the best of luck the remainder of the season, where he will have more opportunities to break the record.

We are so excited to announce this week’s C & S Graphics and Kellie Davidson State Farm Agent athlete of the week, from Adrian, sophomore Elijah Hubbard. Elijah was nominated by his head baseball coach Tanner Pitts after their big win against conference rival Warsaw where Elijah had 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored going 3 for 5 at the plate. Coach Pitts stated “Elijah is an exceptional student and person. He is the epitome of what it means to be a Blackhawk and to have Blackhawk pride. He is one of the most kind and respectful students. The win against Warsaw was a big win for our program, and Elijah was a big contributor to that win.” Elijah is a four sport athlete for Adrian, participating in football, basketball, track and baseball. He states currently football is his favorite. When we asked him what it takes to excel as an athlete he stated “I’ve been blessed with talents and I give all glory to God each time I get the opportunity to compete. It’s all about doing the extra little things and getting 1% better each day. Going to practice and putting in the work, but also taking care of your body, stretching, icing and doing those things outside of practice that make you more successful.” Elijah is just a sophomore, but when we asked him his future plans he stated he has hopes of competing at the collegiate level in football and majoring in sports medicine/physical therapy once he graduates. It was such a pleasure meeting Elijah. We wish him and the Blackhawks the best of luck as they continue to compete this season.

We are excited to announce this week’s C & S Graphics and State Farm athlete of the week, from Butler, Junior, Kylee Dubray. Kylee was nominated by her head coach, Lacey Cook. Coach Cook nominated Kylee after an outstanding performance against El Dorado Springs with 31 points as well as hitting her 1000th career point in the 3rd quarter that night. She stated “Kylee is a selfless player who will take it to the rim when needed, and is also a great passer to our guards outside when she is double and sometimes triple teamed down low.” We asked Kylee what she is most excited about at this point in the season and she stated “she is excited about districts and hopefully making a run there.” Kylee is on the team with her sister Kiersten, who is a freshman, and we asked her what that has been like for her, and she stated,”we both push each other to get better every single day. And if I didn’t have her on the team this year I feel like this season would be a lot different.” We asked Kylee what advice she would give to younger athletes and she stated “definitely put in the extra time especially during the summer. And always have fun, don’t take it too serious. You don’t get these years back.” Kylee is a four sport athlete at Butler. She is just a junior and not decided yet what she wants to do post graduation. The Lady Bears travel to Walnut Grove tonight for their last regular season game. They then will enter the district tournament at El Dorado Springs next week.
We wish them the best of luck tonight and in post season play!
