BREAKING: Chief Justice John Roberts brings down the hammer on Donald Trump after he calls for the impeachment of a judge for disagreeing with him, says that it's "not appropriate."
Trump is spooking even the right-wingers on the Supreme Court...
"For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose," Roberts said in a statement.
While the message was brief, it was potent. Despite his deep flaws and dangerous reactionary beliefs, Roberts believes in the separation of powers. He sees that Trump's blatant attack on the judiciary is a naked attempt to install himself as dictator.
CNN's chief legal affairs correspondent Paula Reid remarked that Roberts's statement "is a huge deal."
"Here you have Chief Justice John Roberts appearing to push back on statements President Trump made earlier today, suggesting that Judge James Boasberg, who, of course, temporarily blocked deportations by the Trump administration or at least tried to, should be impeached," she said to Dana Bash.
"Now, this is, of course, a very short statement, but it says so much Dana because earlier today, in a Truth Social post, President Trump sort of went on a tangent about how angry he was at this judge and saying, 'This judge, like many of the crooked judges I am forced to appear before, should be impeached.'"
Trump was referring to U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, the man who ordered his administration to halt their authoritarian efforts to deport — without due process — Venezuelan migrants accused of being gang members. The White House ignored his order.
"This Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, was not elected President - He didn’t WIN the popular VOTE (by a lot!), he didn’t WIN ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, he didn’t WIN 2,750 to 525 Counties, HE DIDN’T WIN ANYTHING!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"I WON FOR MANY REASONS, IN AN OVERWHELMING MANDATE, BUT FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MAY HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THIS HISTORIC VICTORY," he continued.
"I’m just doing what the VOTERS wanted me to do." "This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!" he went on.
"WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!" he wrote.
If Trump is given the power to gut the courts every time a judge disagrees with him, there will be no remaining checks on his power. He will act with impunity, regardless of the law, and the last pillars of our democracy will crumble.
