A postmark is the date the post office stamps on your envelope when you mail something.

For 2026 tax season, the federal tax deadline is April 15, 2026.

✅ If your tax return is postmarked on or before April 15, 2026, it is considered filed on time — even if the IRS receives it later.

❌ If the postmark says after April 15, 2026, it’s considered late.

🏢 What If You Use UPS or FedEx?

If you use United States Postal Service, the envelope gets a postmark stamp.

If you use United Parcel Service (UPS) or FedEx, there is no traditional postmark — the IRS uses the shipping date on your receipt.
