The “family glitch” is the ACA rule that bases eligibility for a family’s premium subsidies on whether available employer-sponsored insurance is affordable for the employee only, even if it’s not actually affordable for the whole family.

We recently met a new retiree that could not get a premium tax credit because he is offered coverage through his wife's employer, who was working at a small business. The premium to add him, as a spouse to her plan, was unaffordable. The premium to enroll him in a marketplace plan was also unaffordable, without the premium tax credit.

With this rule fixed we are now able to help him, give us a call.
