Happy World Teachers’ Day! Some of the biggest lessons start with the youngest learners. 🍎🧡

Today is World Teachers’ Day, and we’re celebrating Kathy Wills of Roosevelt Elementary, who’s teaching Burbank’s youngest learners how to count their coins — and how to make them count for others.

Kathy has taught in Burbank since 1995 and in Roosevelt’s kindergarten classrooms since 1999. For more than 15 years, she’s also brought her students to UMe for lessons that reach beyond money and banking.

Through Change² — “collecting change to create change” — her students have collected coins that UMe helped turn into donations for BTAC and local animal rescues. They’ve filled wagons with care-package donations and handmade cards for our Thank-A-Soldier event. And on visits to UMe, they’ve gotten an early look at banking and the people here to help them.

Along the way, they’re learning something that will stay with them long after kindergarten: even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference.

As Kathy puts it: “It is important for young children to learn about service and gain an understanding of community. I love creating partnerships with our local businesses.”

That means a lot to us. UMe was founded by Burbank teachers in 1940, and teachers like Kathy keep that connection growing — one classroom, one coin and one act of kindness at a time.

Thank U, Kathy, for more than 30 years of helping Burbank’s children learn, grow and care for others.

And to every teacher helping students see the big difference they can make: U matter to more people than U may ever know. 🧡❤️💜

What happens when U+Me come together? A whole lot of good. 😁

This past Friday night, Team UMe was at the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank, hosting Teen Night and spending the evening with some pretty great local teens.

And it’s just one of the many ways our team has been showing up for Burbank this year.

Through UMeHelps, Team UMe gets out into our comm-U-nity to volunteer, support local schools and organizations, lend a hand at events, raise funds and give back wherever we can. Because for us, helping Burbank isn’t something we do once a year. It’s part of who we are.

UMe was founded right here in Burbank by Burbank teachers in 1940, and 86 years later, we’re still incredibly proud to give back to the comm-U-nity that has given so much to us.

Last year alone, UMe provided more than $32,000 in support to Burbank Unified School District, donated more than $11,000 to local community organizations, awarded $5,500 in scholarships to Burbank students, volunteered 388 hours and, together with our members, raised more than $23,000 for the Burbank Arts & Education Foundation.

And we haven’t stopped. 🧡❤️💜

Because when our comm-U-nity needs us, Team UMe shows up.

Today, we’re celebrating an incredibly special milestone: Maria’s 25th UMe-versary! 🎉🧡❤️💜

For 25 years, Maria has shared her heart, her knowledge and her warm, welcoming spirit with generations of UMe members. She began her career with us as a teller (before UMe was even our name) and has grown right alongside this credit union, becoming an irreplaceable part of who we are.

Maria knows our members. She remembers their stories. She celebrates their milestones, helps them through difficult moments and makes everyone who walks through our doors feel genuinely cared for. She is the kind of person who turns a visit to the credit union into a visit with someone U know and trust.

Maria, U have given so much of yourself to UMe and to the people we serve. We are better because of U, and we hope U know just how deeply U are appreciated, admired and adored. 🥰
