I got a call today from someone who was a potential client. The voice on the phone was frantic and tearful. I had spoken to her and her husband in September. They were clear with me that they had plenty of coverage through his job. I explained, as I do with everyone, that if you lose the job for some reason you will not continue to have life insurance through the job. They understood and said everything was good.
Fast forward about 6 weeks to the end of October; the husband is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He hasn't been able to work. Treatments are expensive on top of what health insurance covers.
It's been 3 and a half months now. Treatment isn't working. They're hemorrhaging money. There is no life insurance.
She remembers talking to me. So she calls to see what I can do... now. The simple answer of fact is: nothing. Insurance is risk based. Life insurance will not sign on to cover someone who is already terminal. She is devastated. Honestly, I'm devastated. There is nothing anyone can do, now. If they had said yes in September, this would look different. But they thought everything was fine. It wasn't. It's not.
I know no one wants to think it will happen to them. No one wants to face or think about death and dying in terms of money, but it's reality. I don't just sell life insurance to make money (even though I gotta eat too) I sell it to help people not lose everything or to at least be able to bury their loved one with dignity without worry of cost. I sell it because no one should have to feel what that wife feels this morning. Please consider what your plans are if everything does not go according to the plan you currently have laid out or you have no plan at all. I'm here to help.
