Helping my daughter, Jenna, find housing near Aspen after college turned into much more than an apartment search. It became a lesson in affordability, independence, adaptability, and learning to navigate a life that looks very different from the one she grew up with. In my latest blog, I share what this experience taught both of us about adulthood, letting go, and finding confidence in the unknown.

Women need financial allies. We thrive in collaboration, and it's important to have a space where we can share our financial goals, wins, struggles, and challenges. This is one of the many reasons I started my seminar speaking series aimed at women to help them along in their financial journey, no matter where they are. As I’ve worked with more women over the years, I’ve seen how differently many women experience money and financial planning.

From caregiving responsibilities and career interruptions to supporting children, parents, spouses, and everyone in between, women are often balancing financial decisions while also caring for others first.

I believe financial planning for women needs to be more personal, flexible, and intentional, and why I’m passionate about helping women feel more confident, informed, and empowered through both one-on-one planning and financial education seminars.

As I watch my daughter Jenna graduate college, move to a new state, and begin building her own independent life, I can’t help but think about how different things were for my mother’s generation. My mom remembers a time when women couldn’t get credit without their husband before the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974.

In this blog, I reflect on how far women have come financially in just a few decades, why financial education for women still matters today, and why I’m so passionate about helping women build confidence around money and their future.

Last evening, I had the opportunity to attend the “Each One Reach One” event hosted by NAWBO Buffalo Niagara — and it was such a wonderful evening connecting with fellow women business leaders.

The night began with vendor tables and open networking, which created a great opportunity to meet so many inspiring women and learn more about their businesses, and experiences. From there, we moved into the progressive dinner portion of the evening, where curated questions and thoughtful discussions were led by table captains. This was my favorite part since we moved tables 3 times, offering everyone more opportunities to meet different women.

I truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with women from a variety of industries and hear so many different perspectives around leadership, business growth, and supporting one another professionally.

Events like this are such an important reminder of the power of our Buffalo community and women supporting women in business.

Women often experience money differently than men.

From caregiving responsibilities and career interruptions to longer life expectancy and the pressure of caring for everyone else first, women face unique financial realities that deserve personalized planning and thoughtful conversations.

Too many women are managing households, supporting families, helping aging parents, raising children, and balancing careers without fully prioritizing their own long-term financial security.

Financial planning for women is not just about investments.
It’s about confidence.
Access.
Protection.
Flexibility.
And creating a plan that supports every stage of life.

These are the conversations I’m passionate about having through one-on-one planning and women’s financial education seminars.

Because every woman deserves to feel informed, prepared, and empowered when it comes to her finances.

With Mother’s Day coming up, I’ve been reflecting on a conversation I recently had with my mom that really stopped me in my tracks.

I learned that although my mom has used their family credit cards for years, she was never the primary account holder. When she was younger, she couldn’t even get a credit card without her husband (my dad).

That conversation became a powerful reminder that financial independence is also about access.

Every woman should have credit in her own name.
Every woman should understand her financial picture.
And every woman deserves the confidence and security that comes with financial independence.

I shared more of this story and why it matters in a recent blog post, which you can read about at abayawealthmanagement.com/blog

As we celebrate the women who care for everyone else this Mother’s Day, this is also a reminder for women to take care of themselves financially, too.

I left the Invest in Women conference in Boston recently feeling energized, thoughtful, and ready to bring even more value back to my clients.

Listening to women like Liz Ann Sonders, Kristina Hooper, and Emily Roland discuss what is driving markets right now was incredibly valuable. Inflation, geopolitical tension, interest rates, and rapid technological change are all shaping the investment landscape in real time.

What I appreciated most was not just the market commentary. It was the clarity.

These conversations helped reinforce the importance of building portfolios that are not reactive, but resilient. Clients do not need someone chasing every headline. They need a strategy that reflects their goals, income needs, risk tolerance, timeline, and real life.

That is especially true in retirement planning. Markets will always bring uncertainty. The question is not whether uncertainty exists. It is whether your plan is designed to withstand it.

For me, the conference was a powerful reminder that good advice requires ongoing learning. The world changes. Markets change. Clients' lives change. Our strategies need to be thoughtful enough to adapt without losing sight of the bigger picture.

A strong financial plan does not ignore uncertainty. It gives you a way to move through it with confidence.
