To all of my dear Missoulians, if you love poetry like me and would like to work with one Missoula's finest poets, please consider signing up:
Shadowboxing: Reading and Writing Poetry (with Mark Gibbons)
Mondays, 9:00 am – 10:30 am, Todd Building, UM
SHADOWBOXING, according to Tami Haaland, “implies awareness of the present, preparation for what lies immediately ahead, and the practice that maintains a fighter’s rhythm.” Led by a practicing poet, these classes will focus on appreciation, not analysis. Each week students will be invited to read, listen to, present, write, and discuss poems. Packets of poetry will be available. Students will also be encouraged to share their own work as well as their favorite poets’. Writing prompts will be given each week for those students interested in them. As readers and writers, we’ll hone our skills to enjoy the verbal pleasures of poetry
About the Instructor: Mark Gibbons is a poet living with his wife and two cats in Missoula, where he also teaches poetry and works as a delivery driver. In 2014, Shadowboxing, his eighth collection of poems, was published by FootHills Publishing. In 2013, he received an Artist Innovation Award from the Montana Arts Council. Gibbons has been writing poetry for over forty years.
