๐Ÿ”„ Understanding Non-Insurance Risk Transfer: Protect Your Business in Every Way Possible! ๐Ÿ”„

As a business owner, managing risk is a crucial part of your success. While insurance is a key component of risk management, non-insurance risk transfer is an equally important strategy to consider.

Non-insurance risk transfer involves shifting potential risks and liabilities to another party through contracts, agreements, and other legal mechanisms. This can include:

**Indemnity Agreements:** Protect your business by requiring others to hold your company harmless for specific risks.

**Hold Harmless Agreements:** Transfer liability to another party, ensuring they are responsible for any claims or losses.

**Waivers and Releases:** Limit your liability by having customers or partners acknowledge and accept certain risks.

These strategies can complement your insurance coverage, providing an additional layer of protection and reducing your overall exposure to risk.

At the Leavitt Group, weโ€™re here to help you understand and implement non-insurance risk transfer methods tailored to your unique business needs. Letโ€™s ensure your business is protected from every angle!

๐Ÿšจ Attention Business Owners! ๐Ÿšจ

Understanding your commercial general liability insurance is crucial!

One important aspect is the Designated Work Exclusion (CG 21 34). This endorsement excludes coverage for specific operations or work designated in your policy.

For example, if your policy excludes roofing work and you encounter a liability issue during a roofing project, your insurance won't cover those claims. This means you're responsible for any liabilities from those excluded activities and Self Insuring the loss.

Make sure you're aware of what your policy covers!

If you have any questions or need to review your coverage, I'm here to help. ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ”’

When should you put commercial auto liability on a vehicle?

If your vehicle is used for business, you will likely require a commercial auto insurance policy. However, if you are a sole proprietor and only travel to a few job sites daily or use your vehicle for commuting, a personal auto insurance policy may be sufficient.

Commercial auto insurance policies offer higher limits than personal auto insurance policies, properly protecting your business in the event of a catastrophic loss.

If you operate a vehicle with signage/branding for your business, have special equipment installed, or transports goods, then you need commercial auto insurance.

A few reasons to require your subcontractors and vendors to provide Certificates of Insurance:

Risk Management: Subcontractors often carry out work on behalf of the main contractor, and any accidents or damages that occur as a result of their work may expose the main contractor to potential liability. By collecting Certificates of Insurance from subcontractors, businesses can ensure that the subcontractors have the necessary insurance coverage to protect against such risks. This helps to mitigate the financial impact on the main contractor in case of any incidents.

Accountability: Collecting Certificates of Insurance from subcontractors shows that a business takes risk management seriously and prioritizes working with reputable and responsible subcontractors. It helps to establish a level of professionalism and accountability in the business relationships, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring that all parties involved are adequately covered and protected.

Cost Savings: Collecting Certificates of Insurance from subcontractors can also help businesses to keep their insurance premiums low. By verifying that subcontractors have their own insurance coverage in place, businesses can reduce the risk of expensive claims that may impact their own insurance premiums. This can ultimately result in cost savings for the business in the long run.
