Tim!
Why are you doing radio programs...
on the Constitution?...
A very simple answer...
Many do not know, or understand, what it says...

Let me get to the basics...
when 39 delegates signed the Constitution
The power to govern...
was given to the people...
and it cannot be revoked...

The rights given to the people...
belong to every American citizen...
and are fundamental freedoms...
guaranteed by the Constitution...

Thus...
we, as citizens
must understand the Constitution...
in order to be able to protect it...
It is, after all...
a government, of the people, by the people...
for the people...
and, we have the responsibility...
of governance of our country...

We've come a long way...
Good times...

The Constitutional Convention...
a period of debate...
that lasted 100 days...
from May to September 1787...

Twas called to revise...
the Articles of Confederation...
but...
many delegates of the 70 appointed to attend...
of which only 55 attended...
had more ambitious goals...

Instead of revision of the Articles of Confederation...
many the delegates attending...
wanted a document that was of their own design...
They wanted a new government...
instead of fixing the one already in place...

They elected a President of the Convention...
George Washington...
and it was under his guidance...
and direction...
that allows us, to this day...
to have our...
Constitutional Republic known as...
The United States of America...

The Beginning...
1750 - 1760...
The catalyst that began the revolution...
"NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!"

Twas a saying of the colonists...
If they were to be taxed as British citizens...
They wanted a voice in Parliament...
When the request was ignored...
small confrontations occurred...
Many years before Lexington and Concord...

Along with many other disagreements...
this one item became the incendiary...
the burning ember...
initiating the firestorm...
that 37 years later...
would ultimately end...
in the establishment of a new nation...
with its bedrock document being...
the United States Constitution...

The Eagle

Lord knows I am peaceful when I'm left alone
I've always been an eagle, been awhile since I have flown
My claws are sharp as ever, so is my eagle eye
Somethings gonna go tonight, when the eagle flies

Lately I've heard rumors that the eagle may be lame
Just because I've been idle don't mean that I am tame
You've jeopardized my freedom, my natural place to roost
I can fly if I have to, if they turn the eagle loose

So lay all your doubts aside, when you go to bed tonight
My feathers have been ruffled and I'm ready for a fight
Just because I took awhile to fly don't mean that I don't care
When you feel the shadow crossing, the eagle's in the air

A lady asked Dr. Benjamin Franklin...
as he was leaving Independence Hall...
on September 17, 1787...
"Well Doctor! What have we got...
a republic or a monarchy?"...
to which Doctor Franklin replied...
"A republic, madam! If you can keep it."

It is said...
that the ladies name was...
Elizabeth Willing Powell...
a vital part of the founding era...
of the United States...

Our country is a Republic...
Not a democracy...
Not a monarchy...
Not an aristocracy...
Not a theocracy...
or any other form of government...

We are a REPUBLIC...
If we can keep it...

Many times...
as I saunter through the wilderness...
I come upon old home places...
some are complete, restored...
some are deteriorated relics...
others are nothing more than...
timbers and rock foundations...

Most who find places as these...
make this statement...
"Oh! It would be great if these walls could speak!"...

My thoughts when that statement is made...

Hush!...
For tis only in the silence...
that the walls will speak to you...
Be silent...
Listen...
