Owl Investment Group

Owl Investment Group In 1976, an anonymous donor gave $100,000 to Bryn Mawr College for the purpose of helping students learn to invest money in the stock market.

Bryn Mawr College Owl Investment Group (OIG) is a student-run organization whose purpose is to learn about and explore investing through the stock market, finance, weekly information and decision making meetings, workshops, and career panels. The Owl Investment Group was formed and has tracked their portfolio, traditionally giving back money to Bryn Mawr College in the form of club donations, and outperforming the S&P 500 index annually.

This summer I have been taking a math class at Villanova University and working at the BMC's dining halls & Wyndham Restaurant. Working with different groups of people from little kids to senior citizens has given me a better understanding about myself and others, and how to genuinely interact people who might be very different from me. I have also been able to cultivate a disciplined regular work-out routine and a reading culture(I finished reading 4 books 😊), both of which I have been struggle to achieve. Besides that, I like visiting new places, hanging out with friends, and shopping.

Summer: I started this summer by working on CS research project with Professor Eisenberg. My colleague and I made progress on redesigning the error message system for GHC. In the same time, I volunteered at the PLDI conference and received a great deal of mentorship from the senior and fellow researchers.

At the beginning of July, I went to Beijing, China, to intern as a media editor for the Chinese version of Scientific American. I have also helped to translate articles for the debut issue of How It Works in China. It was a very different learning experience that combined knowledge of stem and media literacy.

Other things: I love printmaking and Judo

This summer I’m working as a Digital Scholarship Fellow at BMC while also studying for the CFA Investment Foundations certificate exam. As part of the DSSF team, I have been using 3D technology software to digitally revive the spaces that women used to study STEM and conduct research in. We are building interactive scenes, integrating them into Virtual Reality and uploading them in a self-made website to make them accessible to people. Our goal is to inspire prospective women scientists and gracefully counterbalance the absence of sufficient historical documents pertaining to the scientific work of women in the early 20th century.

I’m doing this while simultaneously gaining substantial knowledge of the investment industry through all the study materials I have access to by CFA and enthusiastically preparing for OIG 2018-19.

Fun fact: I have accidentally managed to remember the zodiac signs of all the people I’ve met on campus
