🎃👻 The scariest thing this October? A scammer getting their hands on your information. In honor of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, here are 5 tips to spot phishing scams and protect your personal information⬇️
1. Don’t click creepy links.
Unexpected text or email with a link? Don’t click it. Go directly to the company’s official website or app instead.
2. Keep your information under wraps.
Never share passwords, PINs, Social Security numbers, or account information through an unexpected call, text, or email.
3. Look closely at the sender.
Scammers can make messages look frighteningly real. Check the email address, phone number, and wording before you respond.
4. Don’t fall for scary pressure tactics.
“Act now!” or “Your account will be closed!” are common ways scammers try to rush you. Take a breath and verify before you act.
5. When in doubt, check it out.
If something feels suspicious, contact your bank or the company directly using a trusted phone number or website, not the information in the message.
