Happy Labor Day!

Running a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, or cafe takes a whole lot of hard work, long days, and behind the scenes effort that most people never see.
Today is a good reminder to step away from the to do list for a little while and enjoy the holiday.
We hope you get a chance to rest, spend time with people you love, and appreciate everything you’ve worked so hard to build.

What are your Labor Day plans?

Year end is a whole lot easier when you have the right people in your corner.

For restaurant owners, this time of year can mean deadlines, financial reports, tax documents, payroll questions, finalizing the books, and planning for the year ahead.

That is a lot to manage on top of actually running the business.

A strong financial team can help you stay organized, understand your numbers, prepare for tax season, and make better decisions before the calendar flips.

Depending on your business, that team may include a bookkeeper, tax professional, payroll provider, or financial advisor.

Who is already on your financial team?

And who do you still need to bring in before year end?

As your restaurant grows, keeping the books up to date is only part of the picture.

At some point, you need more than clean numbers. You need help using those numbers to make decisions.

A fractional CFO can help you:
Forecast sales and cash flow
Improve profitability
Plan for hiring, expansion, or new equipment
Build realistic budgets and financial goals
Understand what your numbers are actually telling you
Make bigger financial decisions with more confidence

But strategy only works when the numbers behind it are accurate.
Before you can plan where your restaurant is going, you need a clear picture of where it stands today.

Let’s get your books organized so you have the financial information you need to make your next move with confidence.

A tax deduction isn’t a good reason to buy something your restaurant doesn’t actually need.

Before making a big year end purchase, ask yourself: Does this help the business, or am I spending money just to save on taxes?

Spending $1 just to save a portion of it on taxes still means you spent the dollar.

If you’re considering new equipment, technology, furniture, or another large purchase before year end, talk with your tax professional first. They can help you understand how the purchase may affect your taxes and when you may be able to take the deduction.

Make the business decision first. Then look at the tax benefit.

Restaurant and food service owners, September 15, 2026 is an important tax date to have on your calendar.

Here’s what may be due:
Third quarter estimated tax payments for self employed individuals and business owners who pay quarterly estimated taxes
Extended Partnership tax returns, Form 1065
Extended S Corporation tax returns, Form 1120-S

Tax deadlines are a lot easier to manage when your books are current and your numbers are organized before the due date.

Restaurant owners, we’re almost through Q3, and the final stretch of 2026 will be here before you know it.

Between managing schedules, covering shifts, ordering inventory, handling payroll, and keeping customers happy, it’s easy for the financial side of the business to get pushed to the bottom of the list.

September is a good time to get caught up before year end gets busy. What’s one goal you want your restaurant to reach before the end of 2026?
