The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized and conditionally approved drugs available for New World screwworm infestation and prevention. Farmers and ranchers are advised to contact their veterinarian to receive direction on the appropriate product for their animals.

Daily assess not only your livestock herds for any infections but watch your domestic animals as well and if you see evidence in any local wildlife that might be exhibiting signs for NWS, please contact proper channels for reporting and obtaining treatment for each situation.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Lampsas, Mills, and San Saba counties are partnering together to conduct a Private Pesticide Applicator Training. The training will be at the MCBank Community Room in Goldthwaite at 1103 Parker Street. The training will be from 8:30 – noon. This training is specifically for those seeking a Texas Department of Agriculture private applicators license and is not a continuing education unit training. The license is required to buy and apply restricted use/state limited use herbicides and pesticides. This program will provide the training and paperwork needed to obtain a new applicators license. Please note that there will be additional requirements to fulfill before you can receive your license. The Texas Department of Agriculture requires this training prior to being tested for a private applicator pesticide license. Individual registration is $60.00 due upon arrival. The fee includes the training fee and two course study manuals. The training is limited to the first 20 preregistered individuals to ensure study materials. This will be the first of two PAT license training courses offered this summer. Participants are asked to pre-register and for more information contact the AgriLife Extension Office in Mills County at 325-648-2650.
