High school students who are members of Texas 4-H or Texas FFA are invited to participate in the 2026 Speak Out For Agriculture (SOFA) Challenge.

Sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) and hosted by the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, the competition helps students strengthen their communication, critical thinking and agricultural advocacy skills.

Students interested in agriculture, leadership, membership organizations or public policy are encouraged to compete. The contest encourages students to analyze current agricultural issues and offer solutions. Throughout the discussions, contestants are responsible for exchanging ideas, evaluating potential solutions and developing action plans to address the issue presented. “Being able to effectively communicate in both in-person and digital settings is an essential skill,” declares Dr. Clarissa Darby, TFB Youth Outreach coordinator. “SOFA helps students become stronger agricultural advocates and more confident communicators. It’s also an opportunity for students to earn scholarship money as early as their freshman year of high school.”

Registration closes Aug. 31st. The SOFA Challenge will be held Oct. 3-4 at the BASE at Extraco Events Center in Waco.

This past Tuesday, July 28th, directors from across District 7 and their families met at Lowake Steakhouse to have an opportunity to meet and discuss ag issues with Congressman August Pfluger.

Those in attendance from Brown County Farm Bureau were: Monte Sanchez (President), Jule Richmond and Donald Krause.

These meetings provide a time to visit with Congressman Pfluger about current and ongoing issues important to Texas Farm Bureau and our industry.

Range Talks Summer Event Series held in Mills County during July 2026

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Mills County has scheduled a summer program event series titled Range Talks. This program series are designed to be short informational meetings that will provide timely information. This series will host 3 programs and each of the programs will offer two Continuing Education Units (CEU's) for individuals with a Private Pesticide Applicator licenses. A total of 6 CEU's will be offered with this series. Each of the programs will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the morning and end around 11:00 a.m. and will cost $10 per program. Please note that the first two programs will be held at the MCBank Community Room and the last program featuring New World Screwworm will be held at the Mills County Civic Center.
