Grants and Community Development Department

Grants and Community Development Department The Office of Strategic Initiatives was formed as part of the new structure that was implemented by the City of Brownsville in November 2019.

The Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI) was formed under the City Manager’s Office to promote inclusivity through Change & Project Management thus balancing development of relationships and achieving results enterprise-wide. OSI consists of the Grants Division, Community Development Division, and the Management Analysts Division (Change Management/Project Management). OSI assists the City Manage

r’s Office and Department Directors with strategic planning, change management, project management and grant management tools and techniques. OSI is responsible for managing federally funded programs that include Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) through the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In regards to grant funding opportunities, opportunities are pursued that are aligned with projects and initiatives identified in Departmental Work Plans. The work plans lay out work elements that fall under at least one of the City Commission pillars, which were established from Commission Visioning workshops.
