🌴💦 TRACKING CRISTINA’S TROPICAL MOISTURE: COULD IT REACH THE GULF? 💦🌴

It may sound like the title of a late-night movie, but yes — we’re keeping an eye on Cristina’s moisture and where it could end up next week.

Currently, Tropical Storm Cristina is spinning in the Eastern Pacific near the coast of Central America. While the storm itself is expected to weaken, the latest 12z GEFS ensemble guidance suggests that a significant amount of tropical moisture may survive the journey across Central America and emerge into the Bay of Campeche and southern Gulf of Mexico later this week.

🌀 What Are The Models Showing?

The ensemble guidance generally points toward two possible outcomes:

🌵 Scenario 1: Western Gulf Track

* Many ensemble members keep the moisture concentrated over the western Gulf.
* The plume would then drift northwestward into Texas.
* In this setup, the heaviest rainfall would remain focused across Texas and portions of northeastern Mexico.
* Rain impacts along the central Gulf Coast would be limited.

🌧️ Scenario 2: Central Gulf Lift

* Other ensemble members show a stronger northward pull.
* Tropical moisture would spread farther into the central Gulf.
* This could increase rain and thunderstorm chances across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.
* A wetter pattern could develop across the Gulf Coast by next weekend and early next week.

📌 The Bottom Line

* There is no immediate threat from Cristina itself.
* Wind shear and land interaction should weaken and disrupt the storm’s circulation before it reaches the Gulf.
* However, the tropical moisture associated with Cristina is likely to survive and move northward.
* The biggest question remains where that moisture ultimately sets up — Texas or a broader portion of the Gulf Coast.

Regardless of the exact track, we’re watching the potential for a more humid atmosphere, increased tropical moisture, and higher rain chances next week.
