WINTER STORM PREP: PROTECT YOUR HOME AND PREVENT DAMAGE

Winter storms can bring freezing temperatures, power outages, and hazardous conditions. A little preparation now can help keep your home protected and your family safe if severe weather hits.

Protect Your Home

Inspect your roof and trim for weak tree branches near your home.

Keep basic winter tools on hand, like a snow shovel and ice melt.

Make sure heating systems, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.

Insulate exposed pipes and seal doors and windows to prevent heat loss and frozen plumbing. Read more about protecting pipes during a freeze.

Prepare for Power Loss

Charge phones and backup power banks ahead of the storm.

Keep flashlights, batteries, and warm blankets easily accessible.

Stock enough food, water, and medications to last several days.

Freezing temperatures are going to affect much of the state as a polar vortex moves in and is expected to last for an extended period.

From catastrophic pipe breaks to water line freezing, it’s necessary to take action now to protect property from frozen pipes.

A few simple steps you can take now include:

Insulating pipes using foam insulation tubes, especially if they’re along exterior walls or in unheated areas such as attics and crawl spaces

Allowing cold water to drip slowly from faucets served by exposed pipes. Water running through your pipes can help prevent them from freezing

Who We Are ~

Golden Circle Insurance Agency, Inc. began in 2001, and is the Legacy of companies that stretch back to 1933, and the late Mr. C.A. Rawls, who is the Founder of the family-owned company of funeral home services “Rawls Funeral Homes.” In the 1950s, Mr. Rawls and his family launched Golden Circle Life Insurance, which went on to great success. It was named one of the Top-10 African-American businesses by Black Enterprise magazine, before the company was sold in 2000-2001 to the Booker T. Washington Life Insurance Company, of Birmingham, AL. The Rawls descendant insisted on keeping the evocative and historic name. It was at the time that Mrs. Cynthia Rawls Bond, her husband Mr. Maltimore Bond, and Ms. Andrea Bond Johnson & Mr. Dwight Johnson created Golden Circle Insurance Agency, Inc., as the vehicle for providing a “Full Circle of Protection.” By 2000, it was crystal clear, that automobile insurance had become mandatory under state law, and home-buyers needed to cover the largest investment with adequate protection that this venue of services was necessary. Therefore, Golden Circle Insurance Agency, Inc. was formed.
