What 31 jars of honey taught me about insurance and financial services. 🍯🐝
This weekend, I harvested 31 jars of honey from Colony 01 — the first harvest for RGBee Works.
The honey was the visible result.
What wasn’t visible were the months of preparation, planning, learning, adjusting, and protecting the colony along the way.
As I looked at those jars, I realized how closely that mirrors the work I’ve spent my career doing in insurance and financial services.
Responsibility. 🛡️
People trust us with the things that matter most to them — their families, homes, businesses, income, and futures. That responsibility deserves care and attention.
Stewardship. 🤝
Whether caring for a colony or helping someone protect what they’ve worked hard to build, stewardship means recognizing that something important has been entrusted to you and treating it accordingly.
Preparation. 🪚
The best time to prepare is before you need the protection. In the hive, preparation happens long before harvest day. In insurance and financial services, the same principle applies.
Continuous Learning. 📚
Families, businesses, risks, and financial goals are always changing. We have to keep learning with them.
Thirty-one jars of honey made the result visible.
But the real work happened long before the harvest.
That’s something I’ve come to appreciate in both RGBee Works and my work with State Farm: build carefully, prepare early, take responsibility, steward what has been entrusted to you, and keep learning.
