- Service your heating system: Make sure your furnace is running smoothly and efficiently before facing heavy winter demands.

- Disconnect outdoor hoses: Shut off the water supply to exterior faucets and drain any remaining water so lines don't crack.

- Insulate vulnerable pipes: Wrap exposed pipes located in unheated areas like garages, crawl spaces, or exterior walls with foam sleeves or tape.
