There's something special about celebrating a birthday with a "passport" and a curious 11 year-old by your side.
Last week, my sweet daughter and I snuck away and spent the day exploring Epcot, snacking our way around the World Showcase.
We made it our goal to try something in every country, and her favorite was the boba tea in China. I'm still thinking about the espresso affogato from Italy, and even asked Marie if it would be "too much" to grab a second one for dessert after dinner....she told me not to be excessive. Ha!
What I will remember most from our day together won't be the food. Or the espresso. (Although I am admittedly planning the next trip where that will be our first stop!)
What I will remember most fondly will be the unhurried conversations in between countries.
The laughter while walking together and waiting in lines.
The way she still reaches to hold my hand without thinking. š
One of the things I am deeply grateful for in this career is flexibility and the privilege I have to step away midweek. The opportunity to build my schedule with intention and the trust of my team and clients that allows me to serve them well, and still show up fully as mom.
We only get one life, people. One set of birthdays. One season with our children at each age.
Success, to me, isn't measured in numbers or milestones, but in margin, freedom, and the ability to say YES to a random weekday adventure.
I am so grateful for the work I get to do and the people I get to serve. AND I am especially grateful for the moments in between that deeply and quietly become core memories.
Here's to another trip around the sun. Thank you to those of you that sent a birthday message. It was a great day!
