🚨 CONSUMER ALERT: Your bank’s name on Caller ID doesn’t mean it’s your bank calling.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, spoofing phone numbers, sending convincing fraud-alert texts, and impersonating financial institutions to create a sense of urgency.

A common scenario starts with a call or text claiming there’s suspicious activity on your account. The scammer may then pressure you to provide personal information, share a security code, click a link, or even move money to “protect” it.

Remember:

• Never share your password, PIN or one-time security code with an unexpected caller.
• Don’t click links in suspicious banking texts or emails.
• Never move money because someone claiming to be your bank tells you it’s necessary to “keep it safe.”
• Don’t trust Caller ID alone - phone numbers can be spoofed.
• When in doubt, STOP. Hang up and contact your bank directly using a trusted number.

At Bank Michigan, we believe an informed customer is one of the strongest defenses against fraud. Stay alert, trust your instincts, and when something doesn’t feel right, talk to a real banker.

What’s the secret sauce to sustainability in community banking?

For Bank Michigan, it starts with knowing who we are, understanding the communities we serve and making decisions today that position us to be here for the long haul.

Rick shares how strong relationships, thoughtful growth, adaptability and a commitment to local ownership all play a role in keeping a community bank sustainable in an industry that continues to change.

The goal isn’t simply to grow. It’s to grow in a way that allows us to keep serving our communities for generations to come.

Every industry faces challenges along the way, and community banking is no different.

In this video, Rick shares some of the challenges facing our industry, and how the Bank Michigan team continues to position ourselves for long-term strength and sustainability while remaining locally owned.

Why does that matter?

Because access to a locally owned community bank matters to more than just our team. It matters to our shareholders, our communities and the small businesses that rely on local decision-making and relationships to keep their businesses moving forward.

This National Senior Citizens Day, take a few minutes to help the older adults in your life strengthen their digital security.

Review passwords together. Turn on multi-factor authentication when available. Make sure recovery information is current. And remind them to never share passwords, PINs or verification codes with someone who unexpectedly calls, texts or emails.

Scammers are constantly changing their tactics, but having a trusted family member or banker to call when something doesn’t feel right can make a difference.

Today, celebrate the seniors you love by helping them stay a little safer online.

Today is National Nonprofit Day, a reminder of just how much nonprofits do for the communities we call home. 💙

From food banks and youth programs to wellness resources, education and community support, local nonprofits step in every day to help our neighbors and strengthen our communities.

At Bank Michigan, we encourage our customers to find a cause they’re passionate about and get involved. Make a donation. Volunteer a few hours. Share their mission. Even a small commitment can make a meaningful difference.

The Michigan Nonprofit Association offers resources for connecting with Michigan's nonprofit community, and the State of Michigan provides resources for finding volunteer opportunities. https://www.mnaonline.org

This National Nonprofit Day, find a mission that matters to you, and find your own way to help move it forward.
