Shorter days mean less natural daylight — and less of the vitamin D that comes with it. Our bodies use vitamin D to boost our mood, immunity, and energy levels. Here are some ways to keep your vitamin D levels up, even when the sun sets early:
Eat fish and eggs.

Talk to your doctor about taking a daily vitamin D pill.

It was a great time at our Community Service Centers in Jackson Heights, the Bronx, and Brooklyn this holiday season as X 96.3 FM brought their studios to our neighborhoods! La X, a Univision radio station, featured live broadcasts from our local Empire BlueCross BlueShield Service Centers and brought along some of their top on-air personalities to get everyone in a festive mood. There were concert ticket give-aways, music, raffles and just a real good time. What? You missed it? Don’t worry, they’ll be back at our Customer Service Center in Sunset Park this Saturday, December 16 from 2PM to 6PM. Join us at 5320 5th Avenue in Brooklyn as we wrap up this amazing celebration of the season. Our neighborhood reps will also be there to answer any questions you may have about health insurance. Who knows? You may walk away with a pair of concert tickets!

Empire recently hosted a pop-up food distribution event at our Community Service Center in Jamaica, Queens. Community members could receive fresh produce and other staples to help them prepare healthy meals for their families.

In addition to the food distribution, attendees were given educational materials that provided valuable information about chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension and tips for maintaining a healthy diet.
