Our friend Hannah Hutson Photography has shot lots of baseball thus far in 2026 at Brookhaven Academy.
Scroll through one of her albums and you'll see a theme that develops.
There's no. 6 for the Cougars, rounding third and dapping up head coach Randy Spring after a home run. There's no. 6 standing on first, talking to assistant coach Casey Edwards. There's no. 6, smiling on his way to second base.
Sophomore outfielder Case Simmons is spraying the ball to all fields this season for a hot BA (13-2) squad.
Last week Simmons went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a home run in an 11-1 win over Copiah Academy.
Then he went 2-for-2 with three more RBIs in a 27-0 win against Mt. Zion Christian out of Magee.
Simmons followed that up with a 3-for-4 showing with three more RBIs in a 15-5 win against Copiah Academy to close out the week.
For his three game stretch of driving in nine runs, Simmons has been named the Y'all Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week, presented by Logan Smith with Shelter Insurance.
As someone who grew up with his Dad, it'll make you smile to see Case grinning on the bases, as he looks just like Josh.
Simmons is batting .455 on the season with three doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs.
Pretty good stuff from a sophomore who already stands 6-foot-3.
"He is continuing to improve everyday," said Spring. "He has a lot of ability and is learning the strike zone and what pitches and locations he can handle."
The biggest test thus far for Spring, Case and at the Cougars comes on Monday, when they'll head to Trustmark Park to take on the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots (12-7).
MRA then returns the game to BA on Wednesday for a district doubleheader.
Keep an eye on Simmons, sports fans. His best ball is still in front of him.
"He hits the ball extremely hard. When he is patient and gets his pitch, he is a very dangerous hitter," said Spring of Case Simmons, the Y'all Sports Hitter of the Week, presented by Logan Smith-Shelter Insurance
