Vacation Season
In regards to renting a car if you are traveling outside of the United States; do I have to purchase insurance from the rental company? The answer is this:

MOST insurance companies/policies would require you to purchase insurance from the rental car company if you travel anywhere outside of the USA. That means your coverage will not follow the rental car.

SOME insurance companies do actually follow you all over the world! Yes, you would pay extra for this type of policy, but it does exist.

More often than not, we advise our clients to still purchase insurance from the rental car company. God forbid you are in an accident while driving the rental car, it would fall under the rental car company's insurance instead of your own personal policy.

You may have seen an article like this or heard some form of this news...

While every insurance carrier is responding to the COVID-19 crisis uniquely, the number of auto insurance carriers offering some form of refund to acknowledge that customers are driving less has grown with each day. This savings could be essential right now for those without income coming in, and the carriers are doing what they can to pass down their own savings that has resulted from "less driving = less claims."

If you have questions about what your insurance carrier may be offering in terms of a refund, or whether you should make any changes to your policy, please reach out to your Hodge Agency Account Manager. Also reach out if you have any issue making a payment; depending on your carrier, there may be extensions available, but in many cases you must ask. In general, if your routine or situation have changed, there may be isnurance considerations worth discussing with your agent.

COVID-19 Update (3/16/2020):

Hodge Insurance is open and operating with full capabilities, however in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus and “flatten the curve,” we are asking that clients and vendors do not visit the office for the time being, if at all possible.

Many of our staff will be working remotely during this time, with only a very limited staff working at our office to help maintain our usual capabilities and functionality. Our primary focus is maintaining coverage and service for our clients, and we have invested in technology that will allow us to do that while protecting our staff and our community from further health risks.

If you must visit the office during this time, please do so by appointment only, and only if absolutely necessary. Please consider contacting us instead by phone, (scan &) email, and fax. To aid in efficiency, please also consider contacting your insurance carrier directly to file claims or make minor policy changes.

Thank you again for your understanding and for your cooperation in helping to stop the spread of the virus. We wish you the very best during this difficult time.

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the United States, Connecticut, and the New York Metro area continues and more cases emerge, we here at Hodge Insurance Agency are taking proactive steps to help ensure the safety of our employees and maintain security and work continuity for our clients.

Currently, our office remains open for business and is fully operational. Should the outbreak result in the closing of our office, we have a business continuity plan in place that will enable our several of our staff to work remotely and continue to provide you with the best level of service possible given the situation. If you experience a business disruption because of the outbreak, please reach out to us via email or call us to discuss in more detail.

The health and safety of our team and our clients is our number one priority. We will continue to monitor communications from the CDC and other federal, state and local organizations and provide regular updates for any necessary changes to keep our employees, contacts and clients informed and safe. Some preventative safety measures we have already implemented include:

• Providing sanitizing and other preventative services throughout our office.
• Reviewing and continually testing our technology practices to help ensure that our systems continue to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.
• We ask that clients and other visitors reconsider physical visits to the office unless absolutely essential during this time, to minimize the potential spread of the virus to the extent possible.
• Furthermore, we encourage our clients to deal directly with their insurance carrier to report claims and make minor changes to their policy, in order to facilitate the fastest and most effective handling of their needs.

We are confident that the steps we are taking will allow us to continue to successfully service our clients during this time.
