The month of February is moving so fast, I had almost forgotten to recognize our Person of the Month. This month our person is someone I have known and called a friend for right at 40 years. Even when we were teenagers, I always knew this person would be someone who makes a difference. As the years have gone by, she has proved it more and more each day. She has excelled in her chosen profession, has created an amazing partnership with her husband, and is an incredible and supportive parent.
What makes this individual our person of the month is what she has done recently. A little over two years ago, the Bronson FFA Chapter was on the verge of extinction, years of mediocrity, the abrupt departure of not one, but 4 advisors in a span of two years, and a general lack of student interest had left the chapter in the depths of despair. Then, out of the blue, a new leader showed up. She was seasoned so she knew what it took to be an advisor, she was local, so she knew the students and the parents, she had an appreciation for tradition but saw the need to step in some new directions, and she saw potential. She made the bold statement that she would return the Bronson FFA Chapter to its former glory, she would make the chapter one that people wanted to be a part of, and she was prepared to work as hard as she could to make it happen.
Today, she is well on her way to make that statement, a promise kept! In just two years, the membership is growing like never before, kids who never considered FFA are now flourishing in the organization, community support is growing, and the Bronson FFA is once again not only competing at the highest levels but winning on a regular basis. Throughout all of this our Person has remained the humble leader she always has been. She continues to show that with hard work, commitment to student achievement, and a willingness to reach out to community pays off for everyone.
For her continued commitment to student excellence, her positive influence on so many, and for reviving an organization of incredible importance to Bronson, we recognize our Person of the Month for February 2026- Kelly Varnes! Take time to meet and get to know Kelly Varnes and her family, you will be glad you did.

The last week of February is National FFA week, in honor of that we ask that you tell your advisor how they influenced you and if they made a difference in your life. If you can't get in touch with your advisor, find Kelly and tell her thank you for all she is doing. As an alumnus of the Bronson FFA Chapter in encourage you to join me in supporting the chapter and Mrs. Varnes to make this chapter great again!

The month of January brings a new year and with it a new person of the month. This Person of the Month is not famous, does not seek out attention, and really will be embarrassed to see this. Our person of the month is everything you'd want in an employee, a boss, and a friend. Our person of the month embodies the idea of giving it your best at all times, unapologetically following the rules, and expecting the same from those around her. She does whatever she can to make the situation better. She does this with a smile and an attitude that says how can I help?
I have known our person of the month for years now and have always found her to be highly intelligent, very friendly, and one of the most caring people I have ever known. It struck me as odd that she would accept the job she currently has, because why would such a nice, smart, and decent want a job that is going to face public scrutiny regularly? Then it hit me! She is decent, she is smart, she is kind, she follows the rules, she tries to help, and she is tough. She's perfect for it and she can handle everything that comes at her.
Animal Services is a difficult thing no matter where you go or what you do. It costs a ton of money, there is no possibility of covering all the costs, there are unbelievable rules that have to be followed that most people are unaware of, there are heartbreaking moments, there are times when animals just run out of time and there is nothing else you can do, and there are times when people just don't understand what you have to do and why. There are moments when people are nasty, there are times when employees make mistakes, and there are moments when it all is about to fall apart. There are also times when a kid is reunited with a lost pet, there are moments when an animal that has struggled finds a new and loving home, there are times when an employee goes out of their way to help someone, and there are times when your kindness makes someone else's life a little better.
As a person that's lived here their whole life, I remember a time when there were no animal services, then I remember a time when animals received less than great care (you remember it too), then I recall a time where money was spent with no regard and facilities were left unmaintained. Let's face it, it hasn't been that long ago, that an animal might be better off to stay as far away from Levy County Animal Control as it could. All that has changed now.
Today, due in no small part to our person of the month and her staff, Animal Services is running better than ever. They offer adoption programs, spay and neuter services, pet food affordability services, pet owner education opportunities, and humane capture options. This is offered in an updated facility as affordably as possible for the people of Levy County. Are there rules that must be followed? Yes. Are they in place to protect people and animals? Yes. Are there checks and balances in place? Yes. Is there pride in the job being done? Absolutely. Is kindness and understand shown? Yes. Is the public expected to show the same kindness? Of course.
Is it perfect? No. Do mistakes occur? Yes. Is it improving? Yes.
Is our person of the month doing her best to make it better? Absolutely!
Our Person of the Month is Brandy Cannon. Brandy is the head of the Levy County Animal Services and she is doing a fantastic job. She is also a wife, mother and grandmother, she is a friend to countless people, and an all around great person!

Life has not always been smooth for our December Person of Month. In fact, this person has faced challenges that I pray no one else ever faces. It is because of the person he is that he has been able to handle those challenges.
When I first met our person of the month, he struck me as quiet, but purposeful; humble, but confident; smart, but not unpersonable; humorous, but not silly. As I have gotten to know him more, I find myself more impressed by him. There is not enough room here to tell you about all the reasons this man is person of the month, but I will tell you a few things.
Our person is hardworking, not just in his job, but in everything he does. He gives his genuine best at everything he does. He works alongside others, never asking others to do anything he won't do himself.
He is humble, anyone as smart as this man has every right to be arrogant, but I have never seen one bit of arrogance or ego from this man. I have seen pride. Pride for his wife, his children, his friends, but never pride for himself.
He gives of time, money, comfort to ones he sees that need it, never expecting return nor out of obligation, but because it is the right thing to do.
He is kind. I have witnessed this man show deep genuine care and kindness for those he is around. This is a showing of just how strong he is.
He is a man of great faith. Throughout everything, I have seen this man's unquestionable faith in God. If I am in need of prayer, I want this man praying for me, spend time with him and you will know this man has a strong relationship with his Heavenly Father.
He is devoted to his wife and family. Just mention his wonderful wife or his amazing kids and he lights up. This man holds many titles but I believe his favorites are husband and daddy ( you can't fake a great relationship with the people you live with).
In short, he is a perfect example for young men to follow as what kind of man to become and exactly the kind of man young ladies should look for in a partner. You just don't find a better person than this one.
I could go on and on about this man, but everyone knows how blessed we all are to know him and call him a friend. Our Person of the Month for December is Mr. Devin Whitehurst.
In naming Mr Whitehurst as person of the month I encourage each of you that doesn't know him to introduce yourself and those of you that do to tell him how thankful you are that he is a part of your life I certainly am.
