We have asked the Village Board and the public one simple question, over and over:

Where are the tax savings from abolishing the Brockport Village Court?

To date, that question remains unanswered.

Residents deserve transparency. They deserve facts. And they deserve a clear plan before being asked to vote on eliminating a service that currently operates at a surplus and generates revenue for the Village.

If the court is abolished:

• What is the plan moving forward?
• Can the Town of Sweden guarantee tax savings?
• Can the Village Board factually promise lower taxes after losing the revenue the court currently generates?
• How will any lost revenue be replaced?

The Brockport Village Court is currently operating with a surplus of more than $10,000. Before residents are asked to support dissolution, these questions deserve honest and complete answers.

We’re not asking for promises. We’re asking for proof.

Transparency matters. Accountability matters. Residents matter.

The strongest arguments are often the simplest:
Show us the numbers. Show us the plan.

This is the kind of politics I think we don't need. This post is travelling everywhere on FB claiming farmers are being hurt by solar farms taking their valuable farmland. The post indicates that the farmers are being forced to use their land for solar by NY. The truth? The solar companies and/or the state are not taking the land. The reality is that farmers have been hurt by decades of federal and state farm policies that make farming economically very difficult if not impossible in some years. Those policies encourage imports over domestic production and increase costs for inputs, equipment, and labor. Political party doesn’t seem to be a factor in these policies that favor large global corporations. The increasing financial challenges of farming leads farmers to sell or lease land in order to inject money into their farming operations, so they can keep farming on what is left. Think of all the housing that has been built on road frontage of farmland – that money went to the farmer because the farmer needed the money, not because he wanted houses on his farmland. It is also the main reason over 350,000 acres of farmland has been abandoned or developed into housing or other real estate in the past 10 years in NY. I look at the farming industry in Ontario, just across the river and I see a model for what works. They have a vibrant and diverse farming industry. How do they manage to do that?

Niagara county used to be a leader in fruit production. Look at it today. We need change to revitalize agricultural businesses in Cambria, Niagara County and NY State. Want to keep solar off farmland? Make Farming Profitable Again - favor domestic production of food over imports. Pass fair trade laws so we aren’t trading with countries who have lower standards than the USA.
