If you’re looking for a great hobby that will get you outside, is a fantastic choice. If you’re not careful, though, it can get expensive! Grow your plants from seeds, or find local gardeners willing to share extras. Start your garden small and then go bigger as your enthusiasm and expertise grow. Instead of buying, use household items like coffee cans for planters (just be sure to drill drain holes!) You can get most hand tools at a dollar store, and share or rent expensive items like tillers or trimmers. Go for self-seeding plants, and nourish them with homemade compost to keep them nourished without expensive fertilizers. Buy tools and supplies at the end of the season, and use mulch liberally to keep your water usage down!
