A package shows up on your porch. You didn't order it. No return address, or one that makes no sense. Feels harmless, right? Something free, who's going to complain?

Here's what's actually happening. A scammer bought your name and address off a data broker list. They ship you something cheap, then use your identity to post a glowing 5 star review on their store, since verified purchases rank higher. You become their fake customer without ever agreeing to it.

And the new versions are worse. The FBI is now warning that some of these packages include a QR code taped inside, dressed up like a gift note or instructions. Scan it out of curiosity and it can drop malware straight onto your phone.

What to do if this happens to you. Don't scan any QR code inside the box. Don't toss it either, photograph the label and packaging first. Check your accounts for a purchase or review you didn't make. Report it to the shipping carrier and to the FTC.
