🌳 Storm Clean-Up & Scam Awareness 🌳
Once power is restored after a storm, we understand that residents may want to get their property cleaned up as soon as possible.
If trees or branches have fallen on your home or private property, homeowners are responsible for getting tree branches to the public right of way along the street or curb.
Once that vegetative debris is placed in the public right-of-way, local city and county governments may provide free debris removal as part of ongoing recovery efforts. If you live within city limits, check your local city website to see if this is an option or for contracted debris removal guidelines. Most will require paid contractors to haul off tree debris.
⚠️Once the roads are cleared and conditions are safer, the county landfill at 5750 Pinewood Road will accept tree debris. ⚠️The neighborhood convenience centers are not equipped to accept tree branches/logs.
If you hire a tree contractor, protect yourself from scammers during this process:
✔️ Be cautious of door-to-door offers to remove trees or debris
✔️ Avoid paying in cash or paying in full up front
✔️ Ask for a written estimate and contract before work begins
✔️ Verify business licenses and insurance
✔️ Watch for high-pressure tactics or “today only” pricing
✔️ If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
Legitimate contractors won’t rush you, demand cash, or refuse documentation. Get recommendations from trusted neighbors or relatives
If you suspect a scam or feel unsafe, report it to the Sheriff’s Office at (615) 790-5550 or your local city police department. Staying alert helps protect you and your neighbors as recovery continues.
