We're not sure if the judge will accept the proposed settlement as-is, or recommend modifications, but there are changes coming to the real estate industry that all Sellers, Buyers, and agents for both sides should be aware of. Here's a quick article on what brought about the lawsuit that started a few years ago. The proposed settlement will make some changes, but negotiation of agent commissions will largely stay unchanged...it will just have to be communicated differently than before. In light of the recent lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors (NAR), here's a quick recap of commission issues many people don't understand. If you want more information or have questions about this, please reach out to me so we can discuss what's on your mind. Additional information regarding this lawsuit will be posted as we get more updates. The actual lawsuit has not been finalized, but there is a proposed settlement waiting for a judge's ruling.

The rule that has been the subject of litigation requires only that listing brokers communicate an offer of compensation. Other rules throughout the MLS Handbook and NAR policy expressly prohibit setting or suggesting any such amount.
