Happy Labor Day!🛠️ Ever wonder how Labor Day became a holiday?

Beginning in the late 19th century, as trade unions and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed setting aside a day to celebrate labor. “Labor Day” was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, who organized the first Labor Day parade in New York City.

In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official public holiday. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, 30 states were already officially celebrating it.

And ironically, today, it’s a day when many workers end up laboring more than usual. So much for the day off!
