Last week, the Financial Fraud Fighters hosted a tech recycling event to provide a safe and secure way for the community to recycle personal devices like computers, laptops, tablets, etc.

During the 3 hour event, 166 cars came through, recycling items that filled 6 pallets.

Items collected were donated to PCs for People, a nonprofit that recycles and refurbishes computers and provides them as low-cost options for individuals, families, and nonprofits with low income.

⚠️Spot the Scam – Money Mules

A money mule is someone who receives money that came from victims of fraud. Often times, a money mule does not realize they are being used as a money mule. A scammer will send the money mule funds that they received as a result of scamming someone else and tell the money mule to send the funds to someone else.

For example, they may ask you to open a new, separate bank account to deposit funds from someone you have never met, and then send some of the funds back to them, or to someone else, as payment for something.

It is important to know that acting as a money mule is illegal, whether you are aware you are being a money mule or not
